As we approached our new contract with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), our key focus shifted to Construction, and as a result, Kiwi Can Do has settled in Taumarunui providing Construction Trade course opportunities at Mana Ariki Marae. This collaboration is proudly led by Tina Damand, our Employment Consultant in the Waikato region.

It is such a great privilege to be part of the renovations being done at the Mana Ariki Marae, with our first Construction Trades training course having kicked off in October 2022, where we hosted eight positive and motivated trainees.

Our trainees spent three weeks on course, completing soft skills training, gaining their Site Safe Passport and First Aid certificate, alongside doing hands-on maintenance and repairs on the existing Marae buildings. We had an enthusiastic team, eager to learn and get the basics of building and construction underway.

After three weeks, they not only graduated and received their course completion certificates, they secured full-time, sustained employment that they still occupy today.

As new trainees start their courses at our Taumarunui base, our graduates serve as a support system and motivation, showing them that it is possible and that Kiwi Can Do can help Job Seekers take charge of their future through a career in the Construction industry.

Our pilot course in October proved to be very successful and since then, we have run two more courses, placed more people into employment and are planning the next course in a few short weeks.
